Description

Indulge in the luxurious layers of rich chocolate and creamy frosting with this Tuxedo Bar Cake—an elegant dessert that will impress at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans with non-stick spray and dust with flour.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Once baked, let cakes cool in pans for about ten minutes before transferring to wire racks. Allow cakes to cool completely.
  6. While cakes cool, heat heavy cream until just simmering. Pour over dark chocolate chips in a bowl; stir until melted and glossy.
  7. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
  8. Layer one chocolate cake on a plate. Spread frosting generously on top followed by some ganache. Place the second layer on top and repeat. Drizzle additional ganache over everything for an impressive finish.
