Description

Enjoy a delightful breakfast treat with these fluffy Belgian waffles topped with warm, cinnamon-infused spiced apple compote—a perfect way to start your day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ¾ cups milk (or milk alternative)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 4 medium apples (peeled and diced, preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (adjust based on sweetness preference)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the milk, melted butter, and eggs until well blended.
  3. Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined; lumpy batter is acceptable.
  4. Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  5. Lightly grease the waffle iron with nonstick spray. Pour batter onto the iron to cover most of its surface and cook until golden brown, about five minutes.
  6. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and a splash of water.
  7. Cook while stirring occasionally until apples are soft but retain some bite, about ten minutes.
  8. Stack cooked waffles on plates and top generously with warm spiced apple compote.
  9. Serve immediately for the best experience.
