Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

- In another bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk until smooth.
- Divide batter into two bowls: leave one as-is and fold cocoa powder into the other.
- Alternate spoonfuls of each batter into lined muffin tins and swirl gently with a toothpick.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool on wire racks.
- In a medium bowl, beat softened butter until creamy for the frosting.
- Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until combined.
- Add milk to achieve desired frosting consistency; mix until smooth.
- Once cupcakes are completely cool, frost with buttercream and decorate with sprinkles or crushed candy canes if desired.
